My name is Courtney Irby and tell you about me? Something so simple is always so difficult. Like do people answer this with ease? Because it’s always so difficult for me to answer this question. Lol, but I’m just a regular guy I guess lol.
Could you have imagined your life as a child like it is right now? What did you want to be as a child?
No, I did not . Acting and hosting had never been in my plans. Don’t laugh at me, but when I was real young, I wanted to be a fireman and a pimp. Weird combination, I know, but that’s what I wanted to be. When I hit around age 14, I wanted to be a professional track athlete.
What exactly do you do? Is acting your only career?
I do a bit of everything lol. It started off as just being a social media figure back when Twitter was popping lol. Then from there, I started hosting and got involved into acting. I also started my own hip hop show called “Who’s Driving Hip Hop.” It’s basically a show, where I do interviews in the back seat of luxury cars and we drive around the city. I interview everyone in the hip hop community, not just artists. Rappers are just pillars of the hip hop community, you also have DJ’s, Producers, radio/TV personalities, make-up artist, etc.
How did you get into acting?
I met this guy who did head shots. He told me how I could be an extra on Vampire Diaries and it went from there. I was on BET The Game, Let’s Stay Together, and Good Deeds just to name a few. I spent the last year and a half doing theatre. Theatre was a great experience for me and gave me a chance to really perfect my craft.
What has been the hardest obstacle in acting?
I believe the hardest obstacle is just getting seen. You have so many people out here that want to become working actors and there’s not enough room. But I always remember what Terrence J told me, ”practice, practice, practice, your craft because one day you will get your shot and you just have to make sure you’re prepared.”
Do you think of yourself as a comedian? What did you think of the response you got to your greek reality show on YouTube?
No, I don’t look at myself as a comedian. In that aspect, I think of myself as a Will Smith character, he wasn’t a comedian but he sure could make you laugh. I know it’s a lot of work that goes into being a comedian so I would never disrespect the art. I consider myself an entertainer. I love the responses I get from my Greek reality show. Just knowing it was a thought in my head at first, then presented the idea to Dukk, and 6 episodes later, a few 100,000 views later, people love NAPS. So as long as the people love them, that’s all that matters.
What do you enjoy in your free time?
I’m really boring. If I’m not mentoring kids or coaching track, I love to just sit at the house and relax. Maybe write a short film, or play some video games on my PS4.
What is a misconception people have of you?
I really try not to listen to rumors or what people think of me. Earlier in my career, I cared about stuff like that, but now I have tunnel vision and am trying to improve my career. So much so that I really don’t pay attention to outside distractions.
To date, what’s been your greatest life achievement?
Woo it’s a few, but I’ll keep it simple and say graduating from college. I’m the first male in my family to graduate from college so allowing my mother, grandmother, and little sister see me accomplish that goal meant everything to me. Momma I LOVE YOOOOU… POP HOLD IT DOWN!!
Where do you want to be in 5 years?
Where do I see myself in 5 years? Wherever my consistency takes me. I just pray to God He keeps me focused, and gives me the opportunity to do what I want to do. There’s no such thing as small opportunities. You never know where those small opportunities can take you so I stay humble, stay hungry and stay prayed up. I appreciate you for having a young thug on here. Ok, I’m not a thug, but it sounded good, for a split second I really thought I was one. Only through email though not in real life lol
