If I Break Review

ooooh girl! Portia Moore can write her butt off! Let’s just get right into it! Lauren is living her life, minding her business and staying far away from men because the two she gave into cheated on her. Then Cal walks right into her, literally spilled his drink on her and it’s nothing but cloud 9 from there. Despite her initial assumptions about him being a playboy, a jerk or a strict business man, he is funny, aloof and quite adventurous. On their first date, they go bungee jumping! She is in full lust too, but doesn’t recognize it right away because no man has ever lit her fire this way. She asks herself can she trust him and he tells her he can. Then.. you guessed it. She does and falls head over heels for the man. They get married and she thinks she has finally met her prince charming. But not even three months into their marriage they’re fighting. Why? Because Cal goes on business trips for 3-9 days or more without telling her before hand, where he is going on when he plans to return. To make matters worse he won’t call or text while she is away. The icing on the cake is that every time she asks him about it, he brushes her off and says its no big deal. He literally refuses to fight with her and if he can’t distract her with mind blowing lovemaking, he’ll leave until she’s calmed down. Frustrated and heart broken, she decided on more than one occasion, to leave the marriage but somehow he always comes back to her… except this last time. He tells her he has to leave possibly forever and he can’t say why. She is devastated, sinks into a depression that only a surprise from God can bring her out. Then suddenly after two years of absolute silence, she thinks she hears Cal’s voice in the night. When she tries to tell people about it they deem her crazy and she is hell bent on proving she wasn’t imagining things.

AND THATS WHERE THE BOOK ENDS!!! WHEN I TELL YOU I BROUGHT THE NEXT BOOK FASTER THAN I COULD ORDER MY BOWL FROM CHIPOTLE! Whew! This book was sooooooooo good! Right about now, Portia can have all my coins! Like whhhhhaaattt? Who thinks of this? This book has a twist so good your toes will crawl! It's neurotic, addictive, great writing with a great plot that's not completely centered on sex! MAN it is my strong recommendation that you read this! 5/5 stars. I haven't even finished the second book and I KNOW FOR A FACT I will be rereading this series. Don't procrastinate. Get to reading!

18 Truths Review

18 truths by Jamie Ayrers was an interesting read. I WAS enjoying it. 17 year old Olga is in love with her best friend Conner but too afraid to tell him. It’s the typical story, Conner is beautiful in a typical jock, popular and cheerleaders love him kind of way. Olga has long red hair, the ultimate nerd, and is not recreatonally coordinated. Still they have been best friends for 13 years and she is too afraid to risk that friendship over her heart. The last day of summer they go sailing (their favorite hobby) and he dies after being struck by lighting and hypothermia. racked with guilt Olga cannot go on. She unintentionally attempts suicide by downing an entire bottle of pain medicine. In her haze of depression she meets Nate who is seeing the same therapist as Olga. As you can imagine they fall in love but Olga is so afraid of falling again she pushes him away. still, love prevails AND THEN THE BOOK DOES A CRAZY FLIP OF THE SCRIPT! The plot thickens and I was devastated! I was furious by the ending. I turned the page like…
….and if there was no sneak peek from the second book I would have rated this book 2 stars! However, after seeing into the 2nd book I rate it 4 stars. I must applaud her savviness as well because she got me to buy the second book. It was a good read and reminiscent of High School hierarchies and prom folly. Go read it.

Hooked on the Game Review

Hooked on the Game by CM Owens was a good read! It’s the typical fantasy of poor trailer trash gets the guy because gets the guys but with a twist. The twist being she wasn’t always poor but some poor decision her father made left her poor. Raya lives next door to Kade in her apartment counting change (literally) trying to make ends meet. They both attend an Ivy League college and while she is on countless scholarships, he is blowing his money with no regrets in his mansion. Through unfortunate circumstances, they are forced to live with each other and it was only a matter of time before he realized she was genuine and she realized he actually has a heart. I was rooting for them the entire way. At the end, when despite all the things working against him, they got together my heart fist pumped!
I am so so so so sssssso glad it wasn’t all about sex, although they do have good sex (end of the book). You really got to learn who Raya was and fall in love with Kade as you read. Of course, I recommend it. It is a chicklit (yes, I made a new book genre) and I burned through it in a few hours. 4 out of 5. It won’t have a permanent home in my library but I will be thinking on it for a while after I read it!

Shattered Rose Review

It did not. I really wanted to give this book a good review. Its my first Christian novel to review. But I have to be honest. I have some questions! This book had some serious character development issues. It was entirely too fantasy, happily ever after for me. So I couldn’t get with it for reality. The main girl, Avery, had a few issues. I couldn’t tell what the author was trying to portray with the hot sexy lover name Jake or the hot but controlled man named Parker. Jake was the bad boy with a heart and he kept leading Avery astray. Parker wanted her to do good and lead her to still waters. Still, it wasn’t apparent until late in the book that Parker was a Christian. There was someone (I am not sure who) praying throughout the book. It is my extreme displeasure to say this book gets 2 out 5 stars. It wasn’t always clear, I will not be reading it again or recommending it to a friend. I am not opposed to reading more of the series. I seriously hope if I do some of these questions I have will get some answers. Until my next book!
Shattered Rose by Tammy L Gray took me several days to write this review. I was marinating on it hoping my review would get better over time.

Graveyard Shift

Graveyard Shift by Lana Harvey was very interesting. it put a new spin on death and afterlife that I could not fathom before. As always there is a hierarchy and politics in afterlife and because after life you simply cease to exist rubbing elbows with the right people is even more important down there. it was quirky and had nice jokes. i liked the characters and I liked the style of writing. However, there were a few plot complexities I did not understand. There also were several religions referenced and having no background in those I was unsure how to visualize what I was reading. It was one of those books that was a completely new world. The Grim Reaper hiring other grim reapers and how they reap souls to other lives. In this book, there were several heavens you could go to depending on what you believed on earth. As always, there’s a bad guy who wants all the souls for hisself. Lana is a cute and kinda nerdy grim reaper who can’t help breaking rules but something is different about her. She knows it, she just doesn’t know how unique she is. Maalik is an angel from Heaven and what all the women want. He’s so cocky, Lana ignores him on principle. But he wears her down. There were greek gods, muslims, christians and more in this book. It was really crazy, twisted look on death. Had my imagination like…
Its a 3 out of 5 stars. This book is a series and I am still debating whether I will continue reading or not. I really want to know more about the core relationships that was established: Lana/Maalik, Josie/Kevin, and Gabriel/Amy. I also know the plot is going to seriously thicken, I just can’t decide if I want to try to muddle through the things I am confused on any further. If you like dark comedies I’d say go for it. I appreciate the focus on work and emotion, not sex. #freebooktho

Run, Clarissa, Run

Run Clarissa Run was a very in-depth, inept telling of a transgender male named Clark. He can remember since the time he was four having a dream of being a woman and finally being happy. I can honestly say this was a great read! It was interesting, the plot was unpredictable but concise and most importantly there was a true, honest, inner dialogue from someone who is transgender. It touched on topics everyone can relate to: bullying, High School drama, identity issues and adolescent sexuality. I felt like Clark was my friend. I found myself turning the page, ready for more!

I felt for his abuse from peers and the misunderstandings from his mother and brother. I cheered for him when he finally stood up for hisself! I don’t care if you’re a mans man, jock, nerd, pretty girl, whatever I recommend you read this book! I finished thinking pretty deeply. The best book provokes thought! I will MOST CERTAINLY be reading more works of Racheal Eliason! Looking forward to reviewing more of her work. Go check it out. TTTTRRRUUUSSSSTTTT me. Don’t be put off because it’s about a transgender book. Seriously, you need to read this book.

Review Qualifications

Hey yall!
So you’re probably wondering how I come up with my star ratings It’s not just my opinion or feelings when reading the novel. I actually came up with credentials in which I judge to fairly say how many stars each book should receive.

1. Is it clear?
NOTHING and I do mean nnnoooothing is worse than reading a book, ending a chapter and realizing you don’t have a clue what’s going on. You shouldn’t be asking questions that don’t pertain to the ending of the book. Like “how many sisters does so and so have again?” If the author already provided it, you should remember. If you don’t that novel is probably dry! Which leads me to the next criteria.

2. Is it entertaining?
I should not be stifling yawns because I can’t read the material without tears of boredom! I want to be stifling yawns because it’s 3 am and I have to work in the morning but I can’t put this book down because ITS SO FREAKING GOOD!
3. Are the characters believable?
Let me tell you something, sometimes Romeo and Juliet are not believable to me. Maybe that’s how they acted back then (I wouldn’t know. I’m not much of a history buff) BUT if that were me I would have said “pppssshhh Rom dead? Mk. I’m cute enough, I’ll find somebody else.” LIKE GIRL! You reallly gon off yourself? For real? And Rom.. my dude.. how Drake of you! You crying over her dead body and then killing yoself!? Not cool little buddy, (shaking my head) not cool. AND FOR GODS SAKE a’yll like 15, 16 tops! PLEN-TEA of fish in the sea. Loads of time to get sessy and do whatever it is the young folk do and then find a nice partner to settle down with. But naw! As my grandma would say YALL TRYNNA BE GROWN! See what I’m saying? Characters have got to be believable for the story to resonate with you. I ain’t read another Shakespearean nothing since that tragedy was forced down my throat in High School (no shade to my English teacher).
4. Would I read it again?

There is a joy in finishing a novel. It is something so sweet that vibrates through your entire being. It is a sense of completion as well as satisfaction. Especially if it was a good book; you just feel so elated and free. You are no longer bound by the pages, hopelessly free falling waiting for the end to come. You have come to it and found it well.

5. Would I suggest it to a friend?
Now this one is a bit ambiguous because friends are like a box of chocolates. Each are varied and few read in this day and age. I am the more studious of my clique and find myself reading entirely more than they will ever read in their lifetime. That in no way takes away from their intelligence. It is a passion for me, a casual hobby for them. SO it is important to know your audience. So suggest it means it is so good I had to tell someone about it; usually a friend. Not necessarily suggest they read it. Of course I suggest them to read it but if I know reading is not their sport I resign myself to gushing about it and why I loved it because.. I am so excited I, for sure, cannot hide it.

These my dear readers are 5 stars and anybody that receives a check beside all these is a 5 out 5 stars! The Holy Grail of Books. Obviously books are like flowers and we all have our preference to see our bouquet full but I hope you find my love for books spread out and not biased in view. Hope you see it my way. Anything I leave out or should consider? Let me know in the comments below.

PS.
If I haven’t read the book, I’m not trying to see or hear about the movie. I believe this goes for all avid readers everywhere.

Scary Beautiful Review

Hey yall… so I have decided to rereading my library. So there are books ranging from middle schooler level to high inappropriate adult level. No matter I think some of ya’ll might be surprised at the good books we read and forgot about as a child.

Niki Burnham has received so many of my coins. I remember reading one book (don’t remember what the title was) and being hooked! I definitely own at least ten of these books. They were so cute, so funny and most importantly appropriate.  Reviewing one now!

Chloe is a pretty girl living in a cruel world. Shes’s too pretty for her own good and it is leading her down  tough road in High School. But we all know how horrible them days was!Wouldn’t repeat High School even if they paid me. NOPE!

Fresh off a break up she comes to her junior year struggling to know who she is without Sean (her boo for four years) so even though shes smart, popular and pretty she finds herself stuck not wanting to be the center of attention. She doesn’t want to talk about the break even though she knows she’ll be the topic of gossip because of it. Surprisingly enough to her and her friends, it works for her.  This book was KA-UTE! It’s kinda short too so read it! 3/5 because I’m not going to read it again and it wasn’t so bomb that I would recommend to my friends now but it was very interesting! And obvi I reread it. SO CHECK IT OUT!
